With the reverse move off the CN Hagersville Sub complete, CP's Nanticoke steel train starts its eastbound journey along the CASO Sub, departing Hagersville for Welland. The morning of Sunday, November 13, 1977 finds ONR SD40-2 1730 sitting at the north end of the North Bay shops, while Members of the Upper Canada Railway Society capture a few photos.<br><br>UCRS members were up north for the weekend, having taken train 123, the Northlander, from Toronto on Fri. Nov. 11 up to North Bay. The excursion on Sat. Nov. 12 ran to Elk Lake, Adams Mine, Swastika, and Kirkland Lake, returning to North Bay later in the evening. Members would return south to Toronto on Northlander 122 on Sunday afternoon. CP's Nanticoke steel train crosses King Street, pounding the diamond with the CASO sub at Hagersville. <b<A meeting of Nanticoke steel trains.</b> Three of Canadian Pacific's MLW C424s lead the loaded train north at CN Garnet, while an A-B-A set of Canadian National GMD F7s wait in the yard to proceed south to Stelco's Lake Erie Works with empties. This scene was captured as the operation was switched between CN and CP, which occurred every so many weeks. <br><br>Per John Eull's article "The History of the Nanticoke Steel Trains - Part 2" in The Ontarian, CP's steel train was in its final year of operation before being 100% handled by CN. Prior to May 20, 1986, the train had operated Hamilton - Brantford - Waterford - Simcoe - Garnet - Nanticoke utilizing the TH&B Waterford Sub, LE&N Simcoe Sub, CN Cayuga and Hagersville Subs. A landslide at Cainsville during the evening of May 20 severed the line, which with a twelve million dollar price tag for repairs, resulted in the line being abandoned. Three of CP's recently rebuilt GP units, two being former Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo units, approach Hunter Street station. All three units would survive until the end of the GP7/9 era on CP in the mid 2010s. CP GP7u 1684, <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=40161>former TH&B 74,</a> emerged from rebuild just one year earlier, would be retired in 2013. Second up, CP GP 7u 1686, the <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=40019>former TH&B 76,</a> would be retired in 2012. Finally CP8205, originally, CP 8648, would be retired in 2014.

Canadian Pacific's steel train is northbound across the Cayuga Sub at CN Garnet with three MLW C424s taking charge. Upon reaching Hagersville, the train will reverse onto the CASO, making the run east to Welland to get back to Hamilton over the TH&B.

Port Colborne's Canal Days is an annual event held over the civic holiday weekend (Aug. 4 - 7, 2000 - exact day approximate) celebrating the Welland Canal and the prosperity it has brought to the town and Niagara Region. During the early years of Trillium's Port Colborne Harbour Railway, short excursions were held using ALCO C-425 6101, ALCO S1 308, and coaches from the Medina Railroad Museum in New York. In late May 1978, one of ONR's TEE train sets was in southern Ontario on display during Belleville's Railway Week festivities. To return the equipment to Toronto, and then north, the UCRS arranged an excursion from Belleville over the Campbellford and Uxbridge Subdivisions, taking the unusual equipment to places it typically wouldn't be seen. Here the train pauses on Bethune Street in Peterborough at the site of the former CN station.

Recently purchased from Canadian Pacific, RS18u 1861 (rebuilt from RS18 8777 in 1989) is seen outside the ex MCRR Elgin County Railway Museum shops in St. Thomas while undergoing renumbering to Ontario Southland Railway 181.
