Second 44, second career. Built in September 1917 by the Canadian Locomotive Company of Kingston as TH&B 48, the little B-2-s class 0-6-0 would be renumbered in 1947 to TH&B 44 (first 44 renumbered 42). The locomotive would be retired in January 1955 and sold to Stelco, eventually being scrapped at an unknown date. The engine appears to be working around the Stelco-owned Hamilton By-Product Coke Oven Company facility.<br><br>Many thanks to John Spring for information on the locomotive and location.<br><br>Doug Page Photo, Bruce Acheson Collection Slide.</i>

Westbound CN 431 rolls through Guelph station behind a pair of GMD GP40-2LWs, a pair of MLW bigs and another geep. Note the two vans on the head of the train, one each from PSC and Hawker-Siddeley.<br><br>At right, Guelph's <a href=https://www.tyrcathlen.ca/files/produce-depot.jpg>Granary Building</a> is seen on Farquhar Street shortly before restoration. Built as a wood frame structure in 1858 by Toronto-based distiller Gooderham & Worts Limited, the granary was used for storing threshed grain prior to shipment over the Grand Trunk to Toronto. In 1914 the building was covered with bricks to extend the life of the structure, today holding the title of Guelph's oldest industrial building. Numerous industries used the site over the years, including locally-owned Saillian Rugs Limited, before it fell into disrepair during the 1980s-1990s. Restoration during the late 90s converted the structure into an office complex which today houses the Guelph Chamber of Commerce. This area once included Guelph's first railyard, which beginning circa 1900 included an interchange on Farquhar Street with the Guelph Radial Railway.

GT 5930, originally Missouri Pacific 3173, and later UP 4173, still wears it’s armour yellow paint from it’s previous owner as it trails through Burlington West, about to knock down the clear signal. Acquired shortly before this photo in 1990, the units (5930 – 5937) <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=8166>have since received GTW blue or CN paint, and are largely still active on the roster.</a>

TH&B GP7 74 sits on display at GMDD London during their 1983 open house. Built by GMD in October 1950, it would be rebuilt to <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=19558>CP 1684 in September, 1987</a> and retired by 2013. A northbound climbs the grade out of Hamilton on approach to Waterdown ducking beneath Old York Road. Trailing the 6601 is one of CP's mid 90's rent-a-wrecks in the form of HATX GP40-2 500, now working on Omnitrax' Georgia & Florida Railway.

Just over 40 years ago, VIA Rail 189 with Budd RDCs 6135, 6211 poses at the Havelock station before departing on the second last run to Toronto. Engineer W. E. (Ted) Beam stands in the doorway, and he will <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=48808>hop down for a photo with his train</a> shortly. The final westbound run would take place the following day, Monday, September 6, 1982.
