GT 5931, originally Missouri Pacific 3174, and later UP 4174, still wears it’s armour yellow paint from it’s previous owner as it trails through Bayview Junction. Acquired shortly before this photo in 1990, the units (5930 – 5937) <a href= http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=8166>have since received GTW blue or CN paint, and are largely still active on the roster.</a>

CN M420 3522 at Mac Yard’s diesel shop. Originally CN 2522, 3522 would be retired in March 1998 and sold a few months later to National Railway Equipment in Silvis, Illinois. It would be picked up by the <a href=http://capecodrails.railfan.net/cccx/ccc2000s.jpg>Cape Cod Central Railroad becoming their 2000</a> for a couple of years before returning to Canada and heading for the prairies as <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=25117>Great Western Railway 2000.</a> The GWR retired it’s MLW fleet in recent years, with the 2000 moving east to Manitoba, now on the Keewatin Railway’s roster as their 2404.

A pair of Canadian cabs lead CN 431 through Rockwood. Leader 9565 would be retired in September 1996 and rebuilt as a GP40-2LH for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority 1129 and <a href=http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=5479790>remains in service today.</a> Trailing SD40-2W 5241 retired in 2010.

January 14, 1967 was a special day for fans of the Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo Railway, as the Upper Canada Railway Society ran an excursion covering TH&B and NYC lines (NYC owning 73% of the TH&B, CPR the other 27%) in Southern Ontario, and included utilizing an NYC GP9 on the point. Here, the train has finished the first leg of it’s trip from Hamilton – Waterford via Brantford. CN 4526 rests in track XW19 at CN Guelph Junction, just west of Alma Street. Note the extra “sticks” sans flags on the unit. The “SPEEDWAY Express” trailer sits across Alma Street in the CN Express yard. These sidings have since been removed, along with the pole line, the top arm of which here still strings wires to the north along the Fergus sub. CN 4526 was rebuilt in 1984 as CN 4028, assigned to Kitchener a few times in recent years. Alex Sanders shot it <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=36176>just off to the left of this image in 2019.</a> 4028 has been out of service at Transcona Shops since fall 2021.

<b>”Tight Grip, Safe Trip”.</b> One of TH&B’s safety slogans adorns the side of van 61 at Aberdeen Yard. 61 has been preserved in a few different forms over the years, originally as <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=39637>Port Stanley Terminal Rail 61,</a> later to <a href=http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/tourist/STCR_61.jpg>St. Thomas Central 61,</a> and finally to the Waterloo Central where it resides today, recently <a href=https://waterloocentralrailway.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/gjm-258491.jpg>restored to full TH&B appearance.</a> Van 63 can be seen at right.

VIA 73 makes it’s station stop with MLW FPa-4 6777 up front. 6777 can be found today on the <a href=https://s6d5h5k2.stackpathcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/6777-Taylor-2.jpg>Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad</a> in Peninsula, Ohio.

Before and after. The daily Laser train crosses over Plains Road in Burlington, approaching the junction with the Halton Sub at Burlington West. Up front is patched GT 6418 wearing it’s old Detroit, Toledo & Ironton colours, while trailing GT 6414 wears the full blue scheme.

Turbo equipped train 66 seems to have run into some mechanical problems, needing help from FP9A 6525 on the approach to Danforth, about to duck under Main Street. The scene is very different compared to <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=44970>what Doug Page shot</a> almost 20 years earlier.

The engineer on VIA Rail 189 poses in front of his pair of Budd RDCs at Havelock before departing on the second last run to Toronto. The final westbound run would take place the following day, Monday, September 6, 1982.
