About 4.5 hours after photographing the last RLHH 597, I found myself standing on the platform at Brantford watching the new Hagersville Subdivision road train get ready to start its inaugural run. 581 would come on duty at 2130hrs, with the crew on board they performed their brake tests and got ready to depart. Running on TGBO 1640, L581 received their signal to exit the yard and proceed to the South Service Track at Paris to collect their train. They would return around midnight to Brantford to pick up their paperwork and head for Garnet.

With the previous day's 330 rolling past the cleanup of a two-day old derailment, I don't think CN will be asking to use this image to demonstrate operational excellence anytime soon. The story here - 555, operating with the triple set, put some boxcars on the ground in Parkdale Yard on Friday night. By the looks of it, the 0800 crew was dispatched with the double set on Sunday morning to help with the cleanup. When 300 got to Hamilton Sunday morning, the yard crew working in Stuart asked if they were really early or really late. The answer was that they never even left Sarnia on Saturday on account of not having a crew, and didn't leave until early Sunday morning. <br><br>Before this shot, a couple of follies compounded the situation - 330 was stopped completely in Parkdale Yard for a good 20 or 30 minutes, sitting in the approach to the crossing and completely fouling traffic on Parkdale Ave. Meanwhile, it looked like the cleanup crew had the boxcar in the image back on the rails and went to pull ahead, only to put it back on the ground with a bang.

First generation diesel power in it's fourth decade.

When you and me ( the federal government ) relieved the railways of passenger service in 1978 – to reduce the deficits, increase efficiencies and reduce duplication – who believed that those F's and FPA's would survive through the 1980's? And some into the 90's?

(And steam ( heat ) alive and well ?)
<br>
<br>
Perhaps a tribute to the quality of CN's maintenance services ?
<br>
<br>
And conversely an indication of CP's interest in maintaining passenger service / equipment ?
<br>
<br>
Or a condemnation: the acute lack of funding ( interest ) in rail “modernization” ? ( Note that the 'LRC' equipment is now in it's fourth decade ! )

Consider that the forty year old Pickering Airport plan continues to move forward – while Canada's high speed rail, after multiple 'studies' (in various decades), is where ? And Japan's Bullet Train is now six decades in service?

Do consider: IF high speed rail EVER makes it to Canada – get your passenger pics at Bayview /
Hamilton Jct. / Hamilton West Jct. now - any new high speed line will avoid the sharp curves (slow speeds) through said junctions !

Nevertheless, one of my favourite places Hamilton West Junction, the 1980 version of train #74 slows to a 15 m.p.h. crawl for the curves and turnouts with the venerable – fourth decade in service - 1957 GMD built FP9A 6530 in charge.

6530 was retired by 1991.

On this dull, winter's morning, TRRY 1859 trundles westbound, light power, through the massive archway of metal deck girders of Dain City's (formerly Welland Junction) 70 meter (230 feet) high twin-tower rail lift bridge. This narrow iconic 'vertical lift' rail bridge was constructed in 1927 for CNR and near identical to the nearby wider 1930 vehicular traffic bridge (Forks Road). Both bridges cross the abandoned section of the Welland Canal, a waterway in the Niagara Region,,connecting Lake Erie & Lake Ontario. No vertical lift capabilities were required for either bridge after 1980 and the towers of the vehicular bridge were subsequently removed. This old canal, renamed the Welland Recreational Waterway, hosts international rowing regattas and dragon boat races annually, and also the South Niagara Rowing Club.This side view photo looking east hopefully depicts both the height and narrowness of this intriguing rail bridge used exclusively this day by Trillium Railway. Craig Allen's masterpiece id= 24127 taken approximately five years prior captures its width and overall magnitude from Forks Road overlooking the stillness of the peaceful waterway. Mr. Allen picked a beautiful day to visit Dain City and was rewarded with a mixed freight of 8 cars and power to completely fill this neat, iconic structure.

Hate to say it, but I enjoy this place too much. A nice park, wide open view (with trees that continue to get taller and taller over the years, slowly making it harder to shoot this bridge from end to end) and a town rich in railway history. While St. Thomas is a shadow of its former self, there's still great memories being made. Witness OSR's matching F units across a CNR bridge that hosted Wabash/N&W F units for decades - they belong here. They were also made not too far from St. Thomas at GMDD London. OSR Keeps it looking good, and the next act might be three matching F units across this bridge. Never say never! It just might happen in the not too distant future. Thanks again to OSR staff and crew who remarked that it should have looked great over the bridge. I agree!

After a long night traversing the Waterloo Spur, CN L566 is seen timed-out in Elmira with 4784 and 7025 with the Lanxess Canada facility providing the backdrop. Previously the facility was Crompton Chemicals and Uniroyal Chemicals prior to its current name and is a regular switch for the CN job based out of Kitchener. This would be the first time I photographed L566 on the Waterloo Spur in 2020 with thankfully many more opportunities to come.

To many it is surprising that the "North" could look like a southern farm setting in some areas. But here is proof that around Earlton it is just that. I'm on the Highway 11 overpass just a little bit out of town and have caught the morning Northlander making its' way south to Toronto. The train has just left the modern station at Englehart behind ONR 2000 and 204. Next stop is another modern station at New Liskeard. And yes, there is a renovated stop at Temagami, and another new station at North Bay. It doesn't matter though. The Ontario liberal government killed this train in 2012. The current government says it will bring it back, but I am not holding my breath.

Not much to go on from the slide itself but with a little help from people that know the railroad, this appears to be at mile 101, eastbound, off the Regional Road 1 overpass. Given that Mr. McKee was a Brockville resident, this would be within his ' territory '. If anyone has a different opinion, I'd be happy to have the Editor make a correction.
In any event, a good overhead view of the yellow worm.

It's dreary but the fog and drizzle have temporarily subsided while Kingston station staff loaded a passenger using a mobility device. The second J train of the day is getting ready to blast off for its next stop at Brockville. After splitting there, 6445 and company on #62 will continue on to Cornwall, Dorval and Montreal, with 6408 taking #52 to station stops at Brockville, Fallowfield and finally, Ottawa.

A sign, presumably for Riverbend siding on the Vegreville syb in NE Edmonton. I am not sure why this particular siding received the sign. Perhaps the fact that it was used mostly for car storage had something to do with it.
