Originally from Dundas, Ont, always had an interest in trains. Worked briefly with the TH&B Rly in Hamilton and then went west to BC Rail 1973 to 2008 working mostly in Williams Lake BC as Locomotive Engineer. Now retired in Nova Scotia.

BCOL 4651 leading train 470 at Exeter on the former BC Rail. Exeter station near 100 Mile House BC was at one time a very busy spot generating numerous car loads of wood products, wood chips etc for the railway. There used to be 3 sawmills, a plywood plant, small oil bulk plant, TOFC ramp, freight shed and a track for unloading grain and salt, later years there was a OSB (oriented strand board) plant. Times have changed and the last industry there, West Fraser Lumber will cease operations end of December 2025. The closing of the sawmill will be a great hardship for the village of 100 Mile House. Also the mill closing is a death nell for the former BC Rail between Williams Lake and Squamish, approximately 270 rail miles perhaps never to have trains again...

BCOL 4653 heading in the siding at Macalister on the "former BC Rail". I got photobombed by the Conductor. Not sure if it was some new sign language or he was indicating how long was the last fish he caught. Got to have some fun at work

BCOL 4622 on the main track at Macalister, waiting for a northbound freight train to clear in the siding. Macalister siding is along side Hwy 97 and is about halfway between Williams Lake and Quesnel BC. It was a very pleasant autumn day.

January 11, 2006, we were in the siding at Wright BC along the shore of Lac La Hache waiting for a southbound train. BCOL 4648 leading a trio of locos, and way back in the train was another 3 unit DPU set, unfortunately my image of the DPU's was way too blurry to post.. CN in their PSR wisdom was running some monster trains on BC Rail from Prince George south, generally 3 units on the headend and a trio of MU'd DPU units mid-train. It was a gloomy afternoon for photos.

A sunny warm October afternoon, CN 6789 leading train #142 off the Dundas subdivision and eastward to Toronto. Nice sequential numbers on the loco 6-7-8-9. CN 6541 is the second unit. "Kodak Instamatic Memory" from long ago.

A frosty morning early May 1985. BCOL 714 leading time table scheduled train #32, the PV symbol and approaching the north switch Crysdale siding. I was on a northbound freight in the siding waiting for this meet and on the ground doing a roll by inspection. It's all memories now. I could not attach GPS coordinates. Crysdale siding was mile 440.3, about halfway between Hixon and Prince George.

Northbound Rocky Mountaineer "Fraser Discovery" in the siding at Onward on the former BC Rail Lillooet subdivision. The train had an early morning departure 07:00 from Whistler and will terminate for the evening at Quesnel. The journey that day would be approximately 312 miles. Image taken at Onward at 15:57 and once leaving Onward would have another 79 mile run to Quesnel. A long day on the train and scenery never gets tiring.

CN 3150 in TEMPO paint scheme and 4 TEMPO coaches drifting along at speed late afternoon. For those familiar with the area, in the background at the rear of the train can be seen the new double lane bridge under construction on Sydenham Rd which replaced the old hump back single lane bridge. Not a bad image for a 53 year old "Kodak Instamatic Moment".

A sunny spring day. A "going away shot" Train 407 with CN 4575-4586-4520 westbound on the Dundas Hill. I'm thinking the location was near mile 3 point 5 and I was east of the Sydenham Road overpass. A gloomy day at Dundas, must have been cold with snow atop of the escarpment. Hanging out at Dundas station and 477 slogging up the grade with a trio of GP-9's. Great place to railfan. Kodak Instamatic memory from long ago.

C&O 3029-3034-3031 A trio of GP-30's blasting along west into the sunset, just about to bang over the diamond of the CN Dunnville sub at Canfield Junction. The time I have in my notes, this train went by at 20:00. During the visit to Canfield and E&O we saw a total of 14 trains including CN,C&O,PC,N&W and TH&B. This Kodak Instamatic slide has lasted well after all these years.

A drab winter morning at Exeter on BC Rail Lillooet sub. We were making a pickup at Exeter and would continue south to Potter siding and change off with another crew "meet & greet" and run back north to Williams Lake BC. It was a dull snowy morning, image taken at 10:37.

A dismal winter afternoon, even though this a color image might as well been black and white film. Train symbol MC-4 with a trio of F units and a U boat all elephant style running east on the double track CASO is about to bang over the diamond of the single track TH&B Dunnville sub. E&O tower was located at mile 30.5 on the Penn Central Canada Division CASO. A "Kodak Instamatic Moment" from long ago.

BCOL 722, fresh from Squamish Shops after a overhaul / rebuild and new paint. I stopped at Stone Creek, mile 444.3 on the BC Rail Prince George sub for a photo or two. The train was the VO symbol, running Extra North to Prince George.
