Originally from Dundas, Ont, always had an interest in trains. Worked briefly with the TH&B Rly in Hamilton and then went west to BC Rail 1973 to 2008 working mostly in Williams Lake BC as Locomotive Engineer. Now retired in Nova Scotia.

ENGRO 901 at Calder Diesel shops. Rarely seen from it's home turf and I was told I was lucky to get a photo of it while in for repairs at the CN shops. 901 is a modified S1 Alco

Train 571 ready to depart Quesnel and challenge the 2.2 percent grade of Cotwood Hill with full tonnage to Greening siding. The cars will be stored at Greening and the crew will return to Quesnel lite engine. In the interm, a crew will taxi from Prince George to Quesnel and using the locomotives will take another cut of cars up to Greening, pick up the cars there and continue to Prince George. The original crew will taxi to Prince George and after their rest will take a train south to Williams Lake.

A sunny morning at Quesnel BC as the regular symbol freight "VO" pauses in the siding. Engine 701 is sporting fresh paint after undergoing major overhaul. White flags indicate "run extra" northward from Williams Lake to Prince George. The crew will take rest at Prince George and then return to Williams Lake, departing Prince George later in the evening, most likely on #38 the OV symbol.

Train #32, symbol "PV" stopped just south of the Gibraltar Mines copper concentrate load out on the BC Rail Prince George subdivision. We had just made a pickup at Gibraltar and were waiting for the air to recover. The refined copper ore was trucked from the mine east of McLeese Lake to the rail loading facility a mile or south of Macalister siding and was destined to North Vancouver for export. I was the "headend brakeman" and once the train was on the move, we were on our way home to Williams Lake BC

[Editors note: First photos of this rare operation on rp.ca] another image of the unique trains on Canada Cut & Crushed Stone. Image taken on Harvest Road east of Greensville Ontario. It was a cold winter afternoon for pictures with my Kodak Instamatic.

[Editors note: First photos of this rare operation on rp.ca] Early 1971 on Harvest Road, east of Greensville Ontario, I was able to photograph one of the trains on the unique operation of the rock hauls for Canada Cut & Crushed Stone. These trains operated electrically with overhead catenary system, I believe was 600 volts. The trains operated between the pit on Hwy 5 and the crushers located on the edge of the escarpment overlooking Dundas. Loaded trains were run cab first and then shove back empty to the pit. My Kodak Instamtic on a cold winter afternoon.

December 1973 the Fort Saint John has arrived back at Chetwynd BC after an all night trip to Fort Saint John and return. The John Turn left Chetwynd every evening north bound, setting off empty tank cars at Taylor and proceeding along to Fort Saint John. The crew would wye the power, build their south train and quite often take a meal break. Proceeding south with various loads of wood products, grain and other cargo, would stop at Taylor and pickup various loaded tank cars of petroleum products from the refinery there. After departing Taylor, the train would cross the Peace River and then the grind up a two percent grade to Septimus and then on to Chetwynd. The trips quite often were twelve or more hours on duty.

Train 570 on the BC Rail Prince George subdivsion, stopped at Hazard Rd just north of Dragon siding, late afternoon February 28, 2007. We were south bound and had a delayed meet at Dragon siding. Stopping well clear of a few public & private crossings I had time to dig out my trusty "powershot 85" and take a few images. CN 2225 was our trailing unit.
