CN L540 with GTW 6224 and CN 4910 are shoving across Queen Street on the Huron Park Spur in Kitchener, Ontario as they return from lifting cars at the CP interchange. <br> One year later and as of this October crews were in the process of removing the former Kissner Milling silos seen in the background.

CN 421 is viewed waiting at the Kitchener yard for the 15:30 Kitchener Job to return from the Huron Park Spur with their lift of newly built frames from the Budd Plant. 421's consist included; 9560, 9620, 9490 and 7311. SW1200RSm 7311 was likely heading to London for work in the yard.

In April of this year both Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern came together to form CPKC. Over half a year later and locomotives are still being repainted in Canadian Pacific colors with the beaver shield logo. <br> Here, the crew of CPKC H70 have the best view in the house as they pause over the Grand River in Kitchener, Ontario on the Waterloo Subdivision. The consist included CP 3024 and 2207, with GP38-2 3024 having recently been repainted in a fresh coat of red at the Progress Rail facility in Mayfield, Kentucky.

Bioveld SW1200RS 1305 (former CN) is seen inside the gates of the once active Resolute Forest Products/Ontario Paper Company plant. As of 2023, this is now part of the Thorold Multimodal Hub in Allanburg, Ontario.

Waterloo Central Railway 0-6-0 #9 is viewed paused at the Market station after completing its first Thanksgiving Day excursion run in October 2022 between Waterloo and Elmira on the Waterloo Spur. WCR had operated two Thanksgiving Day trips on the line behind #9, with both selling out.

In fading late summer light, CN 421 has just arrived at the Kitchener yard with a short set-off after taking the siding for VIA Rail #88. The consist included; HR616 2102, SD40 5030 and GP9RM 4107. At the time, this was one of the first HR616’s that I ever photographed leading a train.

Last weekend Metrolinx had added extra Kitchener Line service on October 7 and the following weekend for the first time, to alleviate increased demand on GO bus service over the fall reading week. Here the first weekend revenue GO train is seen at the Kitchener, Ontario station on October 7 after loading a full platform of riders.

So the story goes, the day prior we were told by the crew that the CN 15:30 Kitchener Job was going to take a dedicated train to Nutrite in Elmira on the Waterloo Spur with two units. At the time, this was quite rare as normally this assignment only operated with a single unit and a few cars to Elmira 2-3 times per week. <br> So that next evening my dad and I waited in Waterloo for the train’s arrival in late fall light. Here CN 4111 and 7037 with 8 loaded hoppers and caboose 79905 are viewed heading north beside bustling Waterloo Town Square in Uptown Waterloo with conductor Bruce riding the point with his trusty flag.

CN L540 with 4131 and 4705 work the east end of the Kitchener yard on the Guelph Subdivision. The crew was building their train for Guelph after a morning run down the Huron Park Spur.

Last September CN performed upgrades to the main crossing in Baden, Ontario on the Guelph Subdivision. Foundry Street was closed for several days until the work was completed and the area around the crossing was heavily clear cut, which opened this view from the typically overgrown vegetation seen there during the summer months. Here, 4705 and 4131 slowly guide L568 over the newly surfaced crossing as foremen look on.

Thirty years after my boyhood visits and the Kitchener yard continues to seemingly be a draw. Here BNSF 2090, GTW 5849, 4902, 9449 and 4725 are viewed awaiting a crew to take this consist westward. In about two hours a CN crew would board to take L587 west to Stratford after the last GO Transit commuter trains and VIA Rail 87 have cleared.

CN 421 is seen lifting the loaded frame flats at the Kitchener yard with CN 5170 and GATX 3702. The train had set-off the boxcars to the right of power, which were likely for the Cottrell warehouse to be delivered by the 23:00 CN Kitchener Job.
