About Paul O'Shell

Started my railroad career at CN in July 1969 and retired from the industry 49 years later on March 1, 2018. My area of expertise was railway Work Equipment. Reside in Kelowna, BC. I use a Nikon D850 full frame & Nikon D7200 (Nikkor 24-70mm, 24-120mm, 35mm, 18-140mm, 55-300mm, & 80-400mm) and scan with an Epson V550. Enjoy my contributions. Be safe. CP 414502 doesn't get called on too often, but when it does it is ready to go. The Golden, BC auxilliary is a classic consist of old cranes, passenger equipment, and other rolling stock that is seen less frequently as each year passes. The use of contracted wreck cleanup crews is becoming the rule and not the exception for most railways these days.

There's no smell of bacon & eggs or fresh hot coffee coming from CP 411697 today. The kitchen/diner car that accompanies the Golden, BC auxilliary train to derailments sits with the wrecking cranes and rest of the consist on the storage track in Golden fully prep'd and ready to go when the next call comes in.

EMD FP7 Polar Bear Express power ONR 2001 sits powered down and coupled elephant style to sister ONR 2002 on a track outside the diesel shop in North Bay, ON the day before Cinco de Mayo.

In a variation of recent CN paint schemes, freshly painted and recently delivered DESX 1127 (Diesel Electric Service I believe) with wheel chock in place, sits in the then I.N.C.O. (now VALE INCO) yard in Copper Cliff, ON waiting for something to do. This ex-CN GMD-1 retains its classic dual snorkel spark arresting mufflers, however, the distinctive number boards have been covered over with sheet metal and white decals.

BCR electric 6004 sits on the dead line in Prince George, BC coupled to BCR 6001, 02, 03, 05, 06 & 07. 6001 may be the lone survivor of the bunch.

This head on shot clearly shows the narrow gauge wheel set that was installed as part of the modifications on this ex-VIA Rail LRC locomotive. Destined for South Africa at one time, this locomotive never left the yard, or the Nickel City to my knowledge.

This ex-VIA Rail LRC locomotive has undergone major modifications at the Diesel Electric Service shop in Sudbury, ON. Originally destined for Nouvelle Esperance in South Africa, the project never left Nickel Town. Note the narrow gauge trucks. Diesel Electric Service shares the former CP car shop in Sudbury with fellow railroaders Huron Central Railway and Canadian Pacific Work Equipment.
