CN 523's crew gives a big wave to the test train crew doing an inspection at Ash on CN's Halton Sub. Since the demise 330/331 from Sarnia to Pt. Robinson there seems to be a big increase in traffic between Pt Rob and Mac Yrd. 523 ran 4 days in a row from Mac Yrd to Aldershot and back and there have been 524's from Pt Rob to either Aldershot or as in todays case, right to Mac Yrd. This is addition to the regular 421/422 trains.

VIA #84 lead by F40PH-2d 6454 has just left Brampton VIA/GO station as it moves by Peel on CN's Halton Sub on its way to Toronto Union Station.

CN 422 lead by ES44DC 2247 charges uphill as it makes its way by the "Milton Hilton" at Milbase on CN's Halton Sub. 422 was over 11,000ft departing Aldershot. Next stop. Mac Yrd.

Like my new wheels? Brand new CN ET44AC 3048 and ES44AC 2806 was my power today for a 524 Mac Yrd to Aldershot turn. 524 ran light power to Aldershot and lifted traffic for Mac Yrd. CN 3048 had that just out of the showroom smell too :-) I liked having it in the lead so I wyed the power for the trip back to Mac Yrd.

CN train 435 departs Mac Yrd at Snider West lead by CN ET44AC 3021 as the last car of an 11,000ft 422 is clearing the inbound track of the Halton Sub.

And I thought my locomotives were huge. CN train 435 passes train L350 at Brampton,Ont. L350 was a special move for Hydro One. Because if L350's D9 status, the train must come to a stop if it to be passed by any other non dimensional train. The opposing train must move at 10 mph until clear of L350. The train started out in Hamilton,Ont and was forwarded to the CP Rail interchange at Oshawa, Ont. Tomorrow the CP will pick it up and move it to a location near Oshawa, where it will be offloaded to a low-boy trailer for movement to a Hydro One facility near by. The Schnabel car was built in 1974 by National Steel Car in Hamilton and was rebuilt in 2014

CN has pulled all the power that was in long term storage at Mac Yrd and put them on the ready track in case power is needed. The units included SD60F's, C40-8's, SD70/75I's, SD60's and this old girl GMD-1 1413. Hopefully we will see 1413 and her three others sisters that were in storage back in service soon.

A very clean CN SD70M-2 8878 is in charge of this very large M399 as it passes through Norval,Ont on a warm sunny afternoon. CN 523 passes 399 after setting out 9,424ft of traffic at Aldershot. With the demise of CN trains 330/331, some trains are now much larger and will be operating with DP power as required. May 7/16 both 421 and 385 were DP powered trains. 421 was almost 16,000 tons and over 11,000ft out of Mac Yard.

CN ET44AC 3003 passes by the Gorgetown VIA/GO station as it makes its way to Aldershot, Ont to make a set off and lift. Trailing 3003 is CN ES44AC 2819 and 13,000 tons of traffic for Aldershot.

The mighty Niagara River flows quicky under the International Bridge at Fort Erie, Ont. Built in 1873, the bridge sees more than 15 trains a day. The bridge consists of two sections, the first extending from the Canadian shore to Unity Island and the second extending from Unity Island to the American mainland shore. The portion between these was originally built on a trestle, but was filled to form an embankment soon after the bridge opened.

Work continues on the Central Avenue bridge replacement. A busy spot these days as construction of the bridge deck seems complete. CN 532 a Mac Yrd to Buffalo trains gets ready to depart for Buffalo after seeting on NS traffic in Fort Erie. Things have changed here in 35 years.

Need some traction? A line up of locomotive wheel sets sit outside the diesel shop at MacMillan Yard in Vaughn on a cold April morning. The gear attached to the axle along with gears in the traction motors themselves will decide the gear ration and thus the top speed of the locomotive. 62:18(62 gear teeth mated with 18 teeth) is the ratio for a locomotive with a top speed of 65MPH

General Electric has begun shipping the first of its Tier 4 “Credit User” locomotives to customers this month. Both Canadian National and BNSF Railway are the first to receive new locomotives from GE’s Erie and Ft. Worth, Texas, plants, respectively. A Credit User locomotive is essentially a Tier 3 emissions-equipped locomotive built after the Jan. 1, 2015, implementation date for Tier 4 emissions. GE ES44A6 2037 is at MacMillan Yard shops undergoing set up and static load testing on March 15/2015.

Erie Ont in the middle of the first snowstorm of the season. These units will be lifted for Mac Yard by train 422 on Dec 15.
