About mberry
My name is Michael Berry and I grew up in Montreal West, a town with numerous rail lines passing through. I have always been interested in trains but have been photographing them on a regular basis since 2005. I currently use a Nikon D5300 with a NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR lens. For even more of my photos, check out http://www.flickr.com/photos/mtlwestrailfan/.

![Stranded. The Montreal, Maine & Atlantic's short Stanbridge Subdivision is not in use, as Transport Canada is "restricting movements on the subdivision until the track has been assessed by a professional engineer and the conditions under which a safe movement may occur have been provided". The branch line is in very bad shape, with 100 lb rail, rotting ties, etc. This train, with MMA 8583 and 8 cars is therefore stranded both because of this decision and because their are 2 derailed cars about half a mile north of where this train is stranded (at MP 6.15 of the sub). Apparently this train has been there a couple of months! There are also three grain cars stranded near the end of the line in Bedford. As I was taking pictures, a farmer ploughing his field came up to ask me what all the fuss was about. He can't understand why so many people have been coming by to take photos. Just as I got here, a young couple with a 5 year old child came to take pictures of their son propped up on the engine!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/DSC_0273-LR-200x150.jpg)

![VIA 54 is about 20 minutes late as VIA 6452 pushes it over the Lachine Canal towards Centrl Station. The bridge to the left used to be CN's entry point to the Port of Montreal. It has been out of use about 20 years and is locked in place. CN accesses the Port of Montreal through a newer bridge a bit to the east. ![AMT 1310 (GP9) and AMT 605 (generator car) are at what is the rear end of this westbound commuter train, as the train is in push mode. The GP9 and generator car would be permanently out of AMT service by the end of 2009. The 700 series cars which are behind the generator car would be out of service for nearly three years, but have just started to reenter service during the past couple of weeks, freshly repainted and refurbished.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/IMG_2724_2-200x150.jpg)

![CN 8834 is at the head end of a monster CN 369 as it rounds a scenic s-curve on CN's rollercoaster Lac St-Jean sub. The train has 3 units at the head end (CN 8834, CN 8851 & IC 2719) and 2 more operating mid-train (CN 5650 & CN 8893) and weighs in at a whopping 13,000+ tons. The train was later than it usually is as it had broken a knuckle when departing its point of origin (Chambord, Qc).
