CPR no. 8, <i>"The Dominion,"</i> rolls across the Ottawa River on the Alexandra Bridge about one mile out from <a href=http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/stations/CPR_other_divs.htm#ottawa_stations>Ottawa Union Station</i> alongside the Rideau Canal. In less than three years, passenger service to Canada's capital will be <a href=https://churcher.crcml.org/circle/Findings_OttawaStationOpening.html>relocated to the present Union Station,</a> located south of the downtown. The Alexandra Bridge still stands today, in use by vehicles and pedestrians. It is due to be replaced in the near future.<br><br><i>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.</i>

Canadian Pacific number 1, <i>The Canadian,</i> rolls west through the Canadian Shield north of Lake Superior. Just a few miles west of Marathon, the classic consist negotiates a turn near the bay of Port Munro. One of many scenes taken along this Toronto - Winnipeg - Fargo - Minneapolis - Chicago - Toronto journey, over five different railroads.<br><br><i>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.</i>

<br><br>Several UCRS members made the trip to Palmerston on Boxing Day, 1962, to ride the wayfreight to Kincardine. The train, which ran as an extra, was not using a van for the tailend crew due to a shortage, but rather an old combine, giving the train the appearance of a mixed train. Regular passenger service on the Kincardine Sub still remained in 1962 in the form of one RDC trip. With releases signed, UCRS members were permitted to ride the "mixed," and with two at a time permitted to ride the flanger which departed for Listowel behind a pair of MLW RSC-13s; 1709 and 1732. While 1732 was the engine for the wayfreight, 1709 would be cutoff at Listowel to switch customers and prepare outbound cars for other train, returning light to Palmerston and over to Durham for other work later. Bringing upthe rear of extra 1732 was flanger CNR 56466, clearing some lake effect snow that had been accumulating between the rails. <br><br>Here, CNR 1732 can be seen setting off two stock cars beyond Brussels station. These will be lifted on the return trip a few hours later, and will be left at Listowel to be picked up by the Stratford wayfreight. Built by the Grand Trunk in 1899, the station, minus the freight section, has since been preserved as 212 Turnberry Street as the local lawn bowling clubhouse. <br><br>Further details can be found in the February 1963 UCRS newsletter. <br><br>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.

The climb up the Niagara Escarpment almost complete, extra 8921 west rounds the curve at Campbellville passing the famed ponds, a setting for many rail photographers through the years. With extra flags near taut in the wind, CNR GMD1s 1915, 1914 round a curve near Burnt River during a runpast on the UCRS Toronto - Haliburton fall colour excursion of September 1963. This pair of <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=53688>diesels took over at Lindsay</a> for U-2-e class CNR 6167, hauling the excursion <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=38480>up to Haliburton, and return.</a> One of four runpasts held on that trip, another can be seen <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=17673>here at Kinmount.</a><br><br><i>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson. Toronto - Windsor train 29 takes the switch onto the Dundas Subdivision at Bayview Junction, bypassing Hamilton. Passenger trains on the Dundas Sub with a scheduled stop at Hamilton were required to make a reverse move into or out of Hamilton, depending on their direction of travel. A pair of MLWs let out a little smoke as they climb the grade at Puslinch handling an extra westbound to London. Originally named Schaw when constructed circa 1879, the station would be renamed Puslinch by the 1920s, and demolished in 1966.<br><br><i>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.</i>
