CN L540 with 4131 and 4705 work the east end of the Kitchener yard on the Guelph Subdivision. The crew was building their train for Guelph after a morning run down the Huron Park Spur.

Last September CN performed upgrades to the main crossing in Baden, Ontario on the Guelph Subdivision. Foundry Street was closed for several days until the work was completed and the area around the crossing was heavily clear cut, which opened this view from the typically overgrown vegetation seen there during the summer months. Here, 4705 and 4131 slowly guide L568 over the newly surfaced crossing as foremen look on.

Thirty years after my boyhood visits and the Kitchener yard continues to seemingly be a draw. Here BNSF 2090, GTW 5849, 4902, 9449 and 4725 are viewed awaiting a crew to take this consist westward. In about two hours a CN crew would board to take L587 west to Stratford after the last GO Transit commuter trains and VIA Rail 87 have cleared.

CN 421 is seen lifting the loaded frame flats at the Kitchener yard with CN 5170 and GATX 3702. The train had set-off the boxcars to the right of power, which were likely for the Cottrell warehouse to be delivered by the 23:00 CN Kitchener Job.

CP H72 had departed Wolverton yard earlier in the morning and headed east to Cambridge on the Galt Subdivision before stopping at Ayr to set-off cars on the spur. The job is viewed slowly making its way back light power along the Ayr Pit Spur seen from Guthrie Street in Ayr after completing it’s work and returning to the mainline.

During my very first visit to Brantford, Ontario with my dad, I photographed what was likely CN laser train #238 passing the station with a friendly wave from the engineer of SD40 5045 that led six other units.

On a gorgeous autumn afternoon, MPRX 101 is switching cars for the Welded Tube of Canada facility on the Tube Spur in Welland, Ontario viewed near the Highway #140 crossing. This is a cool little operation and not long after the photo the crew was quickly done for the day.

A Canadian Pacific eastbound waits to depart on the Galt Subdivision at the Quebec Street yard in London, Ontario with 8231, 4200 and 4704 for power. This train was possibly 904, which was always a good bet for MLW power. July 17, 1993.

CP Rail Speeder M-2703-24 is seen on display in St. Thomas, Ontario during the city's Railway Day’s event held during August 1993. This Speeder might have been built by Woodings Railcar Limited, as per information gathered from another photo on this site. This link is below.

Train 562 is seen curving through Paris, Ontario at it heads toward the pit tracks to set-off loaded gondolas on August 8, 1993. Powering the small train are GP9RM’s 7035 and 7036 with caboose 79770 on the tail-end.

Under a starry sky GTW 5849 and CN 4770 are viewed assigned to CN L542 in Cambridge on the Fergus Spur. In fall 2022, this assignment’s origin was changed from Cambridge to Kitchener.

CN train 421 is viewed in the siding at the yard in Kitchener, Ontario on the Guelph Subdivision. The train was in the siding as it was meeting 88 as well as waiting for the 15:30 Kitchener Job to return from the Huron Park Spur with the loaded frame cars from the Budd Plant. That evening, 421 had quite a neat consist that included; SD40’s 5022, 5075 as well as SW1200RS/SW1200RSm’s 1386, 7307 and 7315. At the time, trains 421 and 422 often shuffled four-axle power between Toronto’s MacMillan yard and London.

Against the ever changing skyline of downtown Kitchener, CN L568 shoves off the Huron Park Spur with 9427, 7521 and 4732. Once clear of the spur, L568 would head west to Stratford on the Guelph Subdivision and points beyond. June 19, 2022.

In keeping with the three GP9RM series of photos posted recently, here 4116, 7052 and 7016 bring-out a cut of cars as CN 2978 and 3162 set-off cars in Stuart Street Yard in Hamilton, Ontario. I didn’t catch the train ID for them, (possibly L570), however after completing their work, they departed the yard and went light-power back down the Oakville Subdivision.

Not long after a summer downpour moved through Waterloo, Ontario, the CN 15:30 Kitchener Job slowly makes its way to Elmira on the Waterloo Spur. CN GP9RM 7028 leads one hopper and caboose 79883 as it’s about to cross John Street, which is the street I grew-up on that had originally started my interested in trains.

A later than normal departure from Kitchener, Ontario had CN L568 heading west to Stratford through Baden in the early evening as seen here with 4762 and 4705.

While photographing trains arriving and departing from CN's MacMillan Yard in Vaughan, Ontario just north of Toronto, I happened to look over and almost missed CN 7600 and 600 quietly heading towards the west end of the yard with a cut of cars. I was able to snap a few frames from the Highway #7 overpass as they went by, reversed, and disappeared back into the yard all within two minutes.

With the distinctive roof of the former CN Goderich station in the background, Goderich-Exeter Railway 581 is seen switching out their cars during a humid summer afternoon. The train was powered by HESR 3510 and RLHH 2111 and had arrived earlier with over 20 cars from Stratford. Also, that day the crew had set-off newly re-painted GEXR GP15-1 1533 by the shop.
