CN SW1200RS’s 1236 and 1206 are viewed outside the CN Sarnia, Ontario diesel facility during a hot and hazy summer day. According to the 1993 Canadian Trackside Guide, both units were part of a small fleet of SW1200RS’s still assigned to Sarnia.

On warm and sunny September afternoon a fresh pile of recently scrapped CN cars and cabooses rests near the Highway #7 overpass at MacMillan Yard. What appears to be pieces of former CN transfer caboose CN 76502 is amongst the scrap pile at CN’s S Yard. <br> The "S" yard. Located on the other side of the Highway #7 Bridge over CN's MacMillan Yard, in Vaughn during the 90's this area was the location where CN had scrapped anything and everything they had retired or had taken out of active service. “S” was seen chalked on most of the equipment observed on these rusting tracks, which could range from CN cabooses, company MofW cars, vintage Buffalo grain boxcars, retro Car-go-rail boxcars or anything else CN had deemed to be scrapped. The amount of CN owned freight cars scrapped over the years here would no doubt be mind boggling if documented. And in fitting fashion most if not all of this yard is now gone today with hardly a trace remaining as if it never existed.

CN SW1200RS 1364 and GP9RM 7044 are viewed outside CN’s MacMillan Yard diesel shop in Vaughn, Ontario during a late summer afternoon. At the time, CN 7044 was a Vancouver assigned GP9RM and was either in Toronto after being re-assigned or was at the Toronto shop for required work.

Fresh from the GE plant in Erie, Pennsylvania, Canadian Pacific AC4400CW ‘s 9534 and 9535 are seen together during their inaugural visit to CP’s Agincourt Yard in Toronto, Ontario. Also spotted that morning at the diesel shop were brand new; 9514, 9515, 9533 and 9540, unfortunately not all being fully shootable. All of CP’s new AC4400CW ‘s that were delivered in 1995 were quickly sent to Western Canada at the start of their careers.

Canadian Pacific GP7u's 1501 and 1508 along with GP9u 1578 are viewed pulling out another cut of cars that will be humped at Toronto Yard on a spring morning. This trio of yard goats were the regular assigned hump power at the time, along with other sets of GP9u's.

CN 666-01, which is a Fairmont Tamper model W113-E26 dual spike puller that was built earlier during 1996 follows the CN rail train and is seen at the King Street crossing in the town of Palmerston, Ontario. Earlier that day, the rail train had gone through the former railway town for the last time and was powered by CN GP9RM’s 4115 and 4140. During April 1996, CN had removed the last sections of the Newton and Owen Sound Subdivisions that remained between Harriston and Stratford. <br> Thanks to Mr Paul O'Shell for the detailed information on CN 666-01.

Waterloo Central S13 1001 departs WCR’s Northfield Drive station after off loading passengers from the heritage railway’s last run of the day. The northbound consist is seen approaching Randell Drive in Waterloo as it returns to St. Jacobs on the Waterloo Spur.

Goderich-Exeter Railway train 583 with Huron and Eastern Railway (HESR) 3510 has just crossed Woodlawn Road on the Goderich Subdivision and is returning towards Guelph Jct. in Campbellville after lifting cars left on Guelph Junction Railway’s (GJR) North Industrial Spur.

Waterloo Central Railway (WCR) S13 1001 assists #9 and its Thanksgiving excursion train as they have just shoved over Highway #85 and are approaching the Scotch Line Road crossing north of St. Jacobs on the Waterloo Spur. During the second trip of the day from the St. Jacobs Market station, 0-6-0 #9 had encountered some operational issues. WCR quickly retrieved 1001 from the St. Jacobs shop to help for the remainder of the run to Elmira. On the return trip once clear of Scotch Line Road the S13 was uncoupled so #9 could operate on it’s own for its scheduled run-by to the delight of the sold out crowd.

Three covered SW1001's from National Railway Equipment (NREX) are seen at CN’s Stuart Street Yard in Hamilton, Ontario. The three SW’s were destined for the National Steel Car facility located nearby in Hamilton and were later delivered there this same day by CN.

This one is a bit of a mystery as there was nothing online about it that I could find, and I had to rely mostly on memory. From what I recall at the time, during a summer morning in 1994, the eastbound morning VIA Rail train #84 had encountered vandals heading east out of Kitchener and was forced to stop due to possible damage. <br> Here 6415 is viewed stopped at Breslau, with CN officials and police investigating as well as a news crew from CKCO TV in the background. Also, it appears that the unit’s windshield had received some damage as well in the incident.
