![With fall slowly giving way to the inevitable winter, the bare foliage has revealed the remains of CN’s Copetown shack, which was previously torn down and dragged into the nearby brush. This shack had been well documented over the years as it had given photographers an interesting photo prop along with eastbounds descending the grade during the 1990’s. However, the small structure also served an important function along the mainline hill. It had guarded the grade on the Dundas Subdivision for several years as the railway employees assigned here had kept watch over an underground river near this location that was subjected to unexpected flooding. At one time, CN employed foreman here around the clock to monitor the conditions in case approaching trains had to be warned. Time and modern technology eventually caught up to this practice. While the river is still there, there are now underground sensors that warn trains of high water conditions in the area.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/IMG_1361-2-200x150.jpg)
