Michael Berry just recently posted a photo showing the 4700, which I have not seen personally in some length of time. For a little time contrast, here is the same unit in 1986. These 2 make for an interesting pair, noodle vs Zebra and consecutively numbered. The 5501, in this photo, only recently received it's stripes in the last 1 or 2 years. I will not photo the 5500 in stripes until April of 1988. To only a few months later in July to be renumbered 4700. This photo taken just east of this subdivisions namesake, Coronado, at 11:00 with a train of grain loads headed for Calder.

The 2837 is bringing up the rear of the oil train empties as it passes over the east leg of the wye at Bretville Jct. It's destination of Kinder Morgan is only a couple of miles south down the Camrose Sub. The main subject is the bridge span being passed over. It still sports an old CN logo (with "courtesy and service") and the clearance is reported in feet and inches. Myself, I can remember seeing this span back in the seventies when coming home from Ft. Sask. Reading on the CNRHA website, which has some photos and info on this and other bridges like this one, it can probably be safe to say this span has been here since the early sixties (before the change to the CN noodle era). As can be seen, the other spans have been changed on the west bound lane of the Yellowhead Hwy. How much longer till this one needs replacing? I love the wooden fence along the side.

One more set of photos from Redwater, this time located at the Redwater river trestle. Mother nature must have known Christmas was coming this season. There was frost on the trees right into the New Year. This short lived passenger train to Fort McMurray consisted of baggage car 7857 and coach 5099 today. It passed through town just after lunch every Monday, until discontinued. (The 5587 was renumbered to 4787).

One more set of photos from Redwater, this time located at the Redwater river trestle. The train is the same as in my previous 2018 SD40 photo. Not much has changed in 32 years. Overhead powerlines are gone, trees have grown or been cut, barrels are removed from the trestle. Oh Yeah, and no caboose :-).

An out of town crew is bringing a train into CP Clover Bar yard. They will yard the train, put the 8136, 9813 and 8779 to the shop track and then pile into the waiting taxi to take them to breakfast and bed (breakfast I'm assuming, bed for sure :-D).

This train headed backwards out of Walker yard and arriving at Bretville Jct. took the north leg of the wye and then headed south down the east leg with engine and train traveling in the right direction. Photo'd here at East Edmonton at 11:30.

A photo to go with my last post. Almost the same spot, but, 34 years earlier. In my 2019 photo, I am closer to where the hoppers are and a little further away from the track. No SD40's allowed back then, the big power in 85 were the GP38's. Speaking of 85 and Eric Mays recent post and mention of 80lb rail. The mailine here is 85lb rail and the elevator track in the foreground is 60lb spaghetti rail. Hefty stuff :-) In this photo the 1078, 1069 and 1075 are passing through Redwater at 11:00 and headed for the air base at Cold Lake.

Last July I wandered out to Redwater and caught a few photos of the Waterways train. It is headed up by the 5293, 5321 and 5381. There is something real familiar about this curve, I feel like I have seen GMD-1's coming around this same corner. :-)

If I have read the VIA schedules properly, this train was to have departed at 19:50 on Saturday and here it is 7:30 Sunday, making No.2 approx. 11½ hours late. You can see an intermodal curving west around the bend in the distance. It was a nice meet between these two, the tailend no sooner was to clear and No.2 came around the corner, only having to slow for a moment waiting for a light to continue. The 6435 is in behind with 21 cars making up the train.

In connection to my photo of the 7227 waiting for permission to pass through a work area. Here is the reason for the delays at East Edmonton. For several days, to the right and out of sight in this photo, on the road to the diamond they constructed the new crossing. Just like the slow crawl when moving rockets out to the launch pad, the 2 backhoes did the same. You can see the new diamond suspended just below the buckets. I left shortly after this photo, it was a slow process. The 7227 has gone north and home and then 115 passed through going south several minutes before this moment. In the far distance to the left, you can see the red face of a CP engine. I suspect one more train passed through on the way to Fort Sask. before the dismantling of the old crossing began.

Happy Canada Day! Here is my long weekend surprise. As I came to Clover Bar this morning you could see the blue nose of this train waiting on the other side of the river. After the oil train cleared down the Camrose Sub. I was finally able to confirm that my first blue devil leader is on the way. With the 8879 helping, a bunch of grain empties are headed for destinations east.

Going over the tracks on the Sherwood Park Fwy., I catch a glimpse of the 7227 sitting down below. They are asking for permission to go through the work area set up for replacing the East Edmonton diamond. In the distance down the tracks you can see the CN Strathcona sign and siding. The track curving off to the right from the mainline (you can see the red target on the switch) is the Strathcona spur. Although still of some length (over 6km's now compared to over 9km's in the past) it serves only a few customers. That is the WC 3027 tucked in behind.

The 5357 has it's train of tanks on the move out of the East Edmonton siding to finish the last leg of the trip to Walker yard. The puddle notes the very heavy rain in the area just before Father's Days last year. Oddly enough, same thing this year, just after Father's Day. Both rain gauges in the backyard caught 40mm in the last 24hrs. Get those lawnmower's ready.

BCOL 4644 has just come in off the Wainwright Sub. and is now setting off some tailend autoracks into Clover Bar yard before continuing the trip south to Calgary. Nice having the red, white and blue leading and although with those windows, the 4644, built in 95, is a little younger than the 2167. The 2167, formerly ATSF 811 and built in 92, has the older GSC/Adirondack trucks and a Sante Fe gull wing cab roof.

The units have just come off the bridge that crosses the North Saskatchewan river and the first thing off the bridge is Bretville Jct. No knowledge what the hoppers may carry but they are all empty and headed back for a refill. Although they paused for a moment, waiting for the just passed signal, it will be a couple more car lengths yet before the high beams come on. To add to that, in what will seem like only a few more car lengths, they will be up to track speed of 30mph.

2920 brings up the tailend as the last of the empty oil can train rolls into Kinder Morgan. Of interest is the time it takes to get a freshly loaded train back out of there. When I was watching earlier this morning, it really is a round and round as they make their way through the crossovers and finally out. Almost reminiscent of an open pit mine.

I have seen the 4444 puttering around South Edmonton for the last 2 months. Today it is leading and the sun is out, which is a nice change. Gee, I wonder if this is the midnight crew with the 3 lanterns tucked in the handholds? Obviously the boys were enjoying a fine morning as they trundled on past, no rush to get back to the Bar.

Waiting for a only a few minutes (they got their light right away) in the East Edmonton siding with a string of tanks that will be taken to the storage yard on the outskirts of town. It was a year ago that I last photo'd the 4018, it's still looking great. It was just as hot on that day too, with all the windows and doors open.

9:00 in the morning and only in the last half hour has the sun made any progress shining through the smoke. At least it is not down at ground level with the smell of burnt forest yet. It is getting a little silly, June is a week away and already the place is burning down. Whatever. Back to trains. The first train East this morning and I have to post a triple naught (even prefixed with a 3) for my friend jknott86. :-) The 3022 is helping out on the tailend.
