Years ago there actually was some use for a diminutive CP rail yard at Parry Sound. Here we see southbound CP 4743 and 4719 by the station as they were in the process of dropping off a few tanks on the siding and picking up some traffic in the small yard which behind the tanks and a mound of granite rock. Today pretty much all of that is gone, and the station, now used by a commercial outfit, just sees northbound run-thru freights.

  1. Very nice image of a bygone era. That station was such an interesting place to hangout and wait for some action !

  2. That station was the best place to hang out at of any I have been to in Canada. Cannot say enough about them. It was a real shame when the station closed down.

  3. Great photo Arnold. It was so much more wide open then, no fences etc.

  4. Also – check out that tank car on the right. It’s a modern enough design that it lacks a center sill, but it has two compartments – a rare thing now – and plain bearing trucks! So much of the 70s and 80s in railroading has this fascinating mix of “old” and modern.

  5. Lovely
