With the recent GMD1 shot here I thought this oldie might go along nicely. GMD-1 CN 1907 seen at Stratford, October 4, 1969. Delivered from GMD London in December 1958 as the 8th in an order for 18 1900-series units (1900 - 1917) equipped with a steam generator for commuter operations and geared for 83mph. The 1907 would be retired December 1997 and purchased in 1998 by NRE-National Railway Equipment of Silvis, Illinois. The unit remains there today nestled amongst numerous other units in the yard.Note the truck-mounted sand boxes and the split tank beneath the locomotive. The lead portion, towards the long hood/front, being the fuel tank, and the rear portion with blue filler cap for water to be used in the steam generator. Also note the KarTrak ACI plate on the locomotive and other rolling stock, a precursor to today's AEI tag system. If indeed Stratford, the smokestack in the distance appears to be part of the Kroehler Furniture Factory (1920 – 1990s), located at the corner of Ontario Street and Romeo Street South, and served off the CNR Newton Subdivision. The roofline sticking out just to the right of the short hood is an unknown structure, though appears to be roughly where car department structures were located. Any further information welcome.D.
