Caption: Only a few months into the Penn Central merger, subtle signs of the change are noticeable on the third unit, which appears to be re-numbered. Power on this westbound PC freight are "NYC" U25B 2506, U30B 2878, a GP35 and GP40.
This is a pure lashup, meaning all 4 units are still wearing their former numbers and ID’s. That GP35 is a former PRR and only 4 of those were renumbered to fit into the desired (planned) roster for PC. This photo is only about 8 months after the merger, not unusual to find unchanged markings, numbers etc. Likely train LS-1 or LS-3, late morning timeframe.
