Caption: With the CBC celebrating their 50th year of Television in 2002 with a month long cross-Canada train, I thought it might be a simple task to grab a shot of this as it passes thru in Northern Ontario. But that was not the case.
Since I was already planning an Algoma tour ride; why not incorporate both experiences in one trip? Sounds good.
I understood the train would be coming down the CN Ruel Sub and I could head it off at Sudbury Jct. So, was there bright and early, as in 0600, but it was a long way from bright. Dense fog was more like it. Waited. Finally I asked about the train and was told a derailment up the line had caused a change of plans and the train might be coming down the Algoma line and over via the Huron Central. Geez!!! So off I go, tearing along, and my scanner crackled somewhere around approaching McKerrow that the train was on CP not far out of Cartier!!! Sheeeeeit!!! Back I go, and up the #144 about as fast as I dared. Not in time. Had to pull off the highway at Larchwood and shoot the train as it rolled under the highway bridge there. Then, it was back into Sudbury where I managed the picture I have posted. I put a LOT of miles on that day.
The image is of VIA 6403, 6449 eastbound CBC 50th Anniversary special stopped at Sudbury Station. And it is a long way from the early morning I had figured on.
