I grew up watching trains run up and down the street…do you have any more townline shots? I’d love to see them.
Barring the red car at the left, it would be hard to gauge the era of this shot.
The one that got away… I tried to shoot on Townline Rd three times and never did manage to shoot it. Just missed it once.. (wasn’t too knowledgeable of operations at the time)
Then the bridge burnt..
Docta, I recall seeing some photos of trains on Townline on the Historic Thorold page on Facebook. If I recall correctly, Marty Irving – the administrator – posted one or two of them. Almost a year after their posting, they might be well buried below more recent photos, or gone altogether.
Unfortunately I never caught it on Townline either. I had enough opportunities but never did.
And Mr.Durocher…now that you mention it, I posted a couple on Historic Thorold…that name does sound familiar;)
Docta, I recall that there was a shot similar to this one, of a train turning onto Townline, and another one of a train near St. Peter Street and Townline. I’m still hoping to – some day – see an old photo of a train on that spur on Front Street, going to or coming from the saw mill that used to be just before St. Davids Road.
DO you mean on Pine st? Front street tracks were only used in the NS&T days ages ago.
Docta, I’m old enough to remember that spur line running from the Interlake (before Kimberly-Clark) to the little saw mill. Ideally, I’d love to find a shot of a train at that saw mill. Last time I checked Google’s Street View, you could still that line running up Front Street.
Ohh that one! I forgot about that. Yeah, that’s the Townline Spur. Unfortunately, not many photos of it are online. Check NiagaraRails.com
Docta, I’ve figured out where there might be photos of trains on that spur line, and – hopefully – at the saw mill: in the possession of the folks with Interlake. That was their operation; surely, after spending money to put in that spur line – and use it – they would have taken photos to show that the money was well spent. Now, where would I begin to look for someone connected with Interlake?
