Caption: When the Grand Trunk Railway initially surveyed their Toronto - Montreal corridor, they had planned to build their line through the town of Bath. However, the decision was made to build the line 4-5 km north of Bath, and the town never got it's station.
Ernestown did get it's station. Built in typical GTR fashion of stone, it still stands the test of time. Although the trains ignore it's presence, Maintenance crews still used the station when I first visited the site as a kid in the early 80's. Shortly after, the crews left, the station was vacant and damaged by a fire that happened some years earlier. Still stands that way the day I took this photo. Still shows it's architectural detail as one of the few remaining stone stations left that were built in an era that showed prominence and detail, something that the railways of today will not be able to architecturally match.
