Caption: What a beautiful building. This former station is one of the oldest in Canada, with a construction date of Jan 1, 1858, and finished later that year for the European & North America Railway. This line ran from Saint John to Shediac, NB., back when the community was referred to as Kennebecasis. Cost of construction of this 3,000 sq ft structure back then was $2,500. The standard two story building as a passenger station was closed in 1975, despite the 'Atlantic' running thru until 1994. A rather cute VIA waiting room was built off to the left of where I am standing for those passengers that still used the service. Recently a local photographer, Martin Flewwelling had his studio and gallery there on the main floor and the lower area was used for town meetings and such. It went up for sale for $325,000 in 2019. A classic, and since it was thoroughly renovated top to bottom and contained many artifacts, was probably cheap at twice the price.:o) With a road behind and active CN track in front, the only drawback would be lack of private property. The structure as a National Historic Site of Canada.
