  1. What is the white stuff on the front of the unit?? Can’t be snow, the trees are still green. I can’t quite place where this was in St. Thomas.

  2. Looks like snow.
This is east of the station and the big shops, near Fairview – railroad location BALL.

  3. Another great photo Larry. I started on CP in 1973 and many remnants of much earlier times were still in place at that time. The Wabash Transfer mileboard is one such relic. Until the late 70s or early 80s, the CPR employee timetable included instructions for crews returning to CP tracks after having set off in the PC Yard on the south side.
The instruction included the wording “movements against the current of traffic from BX tower to the Credit Main must be protected …etc..” That reference was roughly 100 years old at the time.

  4. The “Wabash transfer” is east of the diamond of the CNR/Wabash – when would the Wabash/N&W/NS last have used it for interchange to the CPR or vice versa?

Would the Wabash have interchanged with the MCRR/NYC/PC/CR in St. Thomas and if so where? Where would both US roads have interchanged to each other if at all?

Similarly, it would seem to me the Wabash (and successors) and C&O (and successors) may have also interchanged in Canada, but probably points like Chatham, Walkerville… all that I can think of where they came close enough. I don’t imagine they’d interchange in St. Thomas as it would be a two railway move to do so.
