Well this is a surprise! While waiting (and hoping) for GEXR 582 to head south to the CP/GEXR interchange (which I don't think happened), this CN Engineering Test Train (ETT) takes a run down the GEXR Huron Park Spur, pictured here just south of Queen St. near downtown Kitchener. To shoot CN in Kitchener is rare, let alone on a spur line! The ETT headed south to the former Budd Automotive plant at Bleams Rd. before heading back up and then west to London.

  1. Nice catch!

  2. Great shot Kevin!

  3. What time was this at Kevin? I figured it would be down there around lunchtime.

  4. Thanks guys! @Stephen C Host: between 11 and 11:30.

  5. I have reports (and some have posted photos) of 1501 down on the Hagersville sub at 1900 heading for Garnet on the same day – boy did that crew ever have a long day.

  6. You may seeing CN on the Guelph Sub in the future :-)

  7. :(

Truth is I’ve seen CN on the Guelph sub every few years…. re-routes :)

Even NS 327 and 328 detoured on the Guelph sub.. once.. each..

  8. Yea Stephen, CN has used the Guelph Sub for reroutes if they have need due to derailments or work programs.
If rumours are correct, they will be a more permanent tenant.

  9. Awesome shot Kevin! Favorited! Huron Park Spur has also been on my bucket list for a while!

  10. @Railfan99: Thanks. Same here. You know this is my one and only shot of a train here :) I was actually waiting for GEXR.

  11. Also note the reflection of a car in the first window :)

  12. So Kevin why were you waiting here for GEXR? Were they working Kitchener yard?

I find it odd – because you could just wait on the mainline, and once they call the RTC for a light to get onto the Huron Park spur you could then just drive down to Queen St..

  13. @SCH: I had Mr JB on the lookout on the main.
