Caption: Well it is not a "time machine" photo in the sense of the link below the header of the page, it's a time machine for this one photographer. I'm new and fresh into the hobby of photography, I am a newly licensed G2 driver and my only target in my viewfinder (or at this point in time, through the digital display on my Canon PowerShot A75) was steel rolling on steel. It's far from the ideal conditions to be taking pictures in, overcast and rainy. Not enough to keep this keen, young railfan out of his parents 1999 Honda Civic and go for a joy ride to catch some action on the local rail scene. After chasing the Guelph Jct Railway north from Moffat and service the Owens Corning fibreglass plant in Guelph, I swung up to the VIA station to see #85 come in. A father and son had the same idea, less the camera. On the lead this overcast and miserable November day was VIA 6403 in "CBC" wrap, followed by the standard Budd coaches. It must have been a busy day as there are three of them instead of the standard two! This grainy, cloudy, and overblown image is the one and only image I have of the unit. - It is featured (in the newer VIA scheme) on our new Canadian ten dollar bill and has been renumbered to 6459.
Ten years later I look back at these images from when I first started out and can't believe how frustrated I became when editors would turn down my images. Dark, gloomy, sky blown out! But I feel time does change things. Even the way we look at images. After 10 years of being in a folder, on my hard drive I feel its time to show it off. Show how far I have come in my photography skills and let this be a lesson (that I hope the moderators of this site will share) to you younger photographers just starting your craft. A lot of your images that may be under appreciated today, hold on to them and have patience. Practice your craft, learn to frame an image, learn what is visually appealing -this image is anything but! However; scenes do change! This scene has changed! And I believe that's what is most appealing to this grainy image.
