Visitors to an open house at WC Woods in Guelph mull around while a photographer for the Guelph Mercury in the vest looks at the train passing overhead. Hauling a d9r dimensional from Babcock and Wilcox (now BWXT) in Galt, this Extra 432 is heading east out of Guelph passing over downtown Guelph on a viaduct bridge built in the 1850's. This was the 'rainbow' era of GEXR where about 11-12 four axle units were all they had and big trains to/from Toronto with this classic power was a daily activity. The train is partially framed in the GJR 'telltale' that was located here until around 2019 when it was unceremoniously removed. This site has pretty much turned into condos now and will soon be a 5th building located where I am standing or thereabouts.

  1. Wow, the cars really show the age of this. It almost still has a 90s feel.

  2. Motive power too.

  3. I remember the Guelph Mercury! Back when most cites and towns had their own newspaper before all the newspaper amalgamations.

And yes I agree with Kevin about the retro feel to this one. Old cars, old GEXR power etc. Nice photo Steve.
