Caption: Visiting Trois-Rivieres station in June 1980, about 9 years after my family moved back to Ontario, some things were much as before:
- A single RS-23 CP 8043 works the yard - the most frequently seen yard switcher type when I lived there.
- The station looked the same, except the out-of-service centre platform was crumbling.
- The track configuration at the station seemed unchanged.
- The pipe handrails at the edge of the underpass (under boxcar) look familiar, as does the power line, and the vertical cylinder fuel tank.
The differences were profound. The residential/commercial area on the far side of the tracks had disappeared, replaced by a high concrete wall supporting Quebec Autoroute 40 through Trois-Rivieres. I think the roundhouse and coaling tower were already gone. CP Rail colours were widespread in the switcher fleet and on more boxcars by this time. VIA was running St Lawrence north shore passenger trains through T-R (ended 1990).
