Was the operator building still in use in 1999?

Yes, there was then when CTC was Installed the operator’s job was limited.

So there was a manual interlocking here until the CTC was installed basically?

Komoka was not an Interlocking, the signals there formed part of the Automatic Block Signal System (ABS). The Operator was in charge of the switches.
