Caption: VIA #693, formerly known as the Hudson Bay, at Thompson, Manitoba. The train is actually make a reverse movement to reach the wye located just outside of town where all passenger trains are turned for their return trip along the Thompson Sub. Train time at Thompson can be a busy scene as both the north and south bound passenger trains are due in around the same time. On this day #693 arrived first and after detraining pulled past the station to the end of track to allow #690 access to the station platform. The southbound came and went first and after it had completed its wye movement it was the northbound's turn. After the train pictured had been turned it will back to the depot and board passengers for the true remote stretch of the line north to Churchill. The three to four hour Thompson layover provides an excellent opportunity to take in some of the eclectic operations and equipment of the Hudson Bay Railway. This line is a true gem and by far the most interesting experience VIA offers. Also this photo is indeed level, it is the track that is off!
