Caption: VIA 6448 and three conventional "Blue Fleet" cars idle at Niagara Falls, ON, on a damp and foggy June day in 1992. This VIA consist was substituted for the usual Amtrak equipment on train 97/98 the "Maple Leaf", due to an ongoing Amtrak strike. My dad and I rode this train from Toronto to Niagara Falls, returning to the brand-new Aldershot station, and I remember being disappointed by this substitute consist- the Amtrak equipment was stored at VIA's Toronto Maintenance Facility with a former GO GP40TC on the point, which I was really hoping to hitch a ride behind. Alas, it never happened, but looking back at the ex-CN conventional equipment now brings back other nostalgic memories...I can still smell the interiors.
