Two-up two-down
Soiled linen bags lay in the hallway in the roomette end of sleeping car VIA 8224 Chateau Roberval.
Room attendant Brian has just finished making up the two-up two-down staggered roomettes (cabin for one in VIA lingo) and is now tending to the double bedrooms in the middle of the car.
With all the 'cabins for two' sold out on this trip, it was my first time in a roomette since the early 1980's. I found the bed more comfortable than in the bedroom for two that I usually occupy, but it was just a little too cramped for those of us that have to get up in the middle of the night (if you know what I mean). ???? Going forward, it's back to a full bedroom for two for me.
I sure hope these Budd stainless steel sleepers are around for another 10-12 years at least.

  1. Paul, thanks for the picture. Sure agree with, you hope these Chateau sleeping cars are in service for years to come, and certainly understand the “middle of the night” visit to washroom/toilet. Yes, I find the roomette bed more comfortable and sleep more comfortably in it as compared to the “cross car” bed in a double bedroom, but for me the advantage of an ensuite bathroom room for my walker outweighs a less comfortable sleep. Does the Chateau class sleeper have a drawing room, and if so it is available for passage ? Really appreciate all your pictures, keep them coming, John

  2. Hi John. Thanks for your kind comment.
Yes, the Chateau sleepers still have a Drawing Room (bedroom A), and it is available for occupancy on the Churchill trip. VIA refers to it as a triple bedroom.
Getting up in the middle of the night and having to slide, or lift the roomette bed out of the way to use the can is not the easiest thing to do. Especially at this point in my life. ????
It’ll be back to a bedroom for 2 for me going forward. ????
    More pics coming.
