Caption: Two Peter Witt streetcars pose next to each other on an Upper Canada Railway Society charter on Spadina Avenue just south of Bloor Street: Toronto Transit Commission "Small Witt" 2894 is sitting facing the proper direction on the southbound tracks, while "Large Witt" 2300 is posed facing the opposite direction (south) on the northbound tracks.
The TTC's remaining Peter Witt cars were on borrowed time: the University subway line opening shortly would cut the number of streetcars needed for regular service, putting the oldest of the old (the Witts) into storage until their official retirement. A newer PCC car traveling westbound on Bloor is seen in the background, along with the Bank of Nova Scotia, Varsity Restaurant, and a Super NN Market lining the north side of Bloor.
