Thank you Sir! It was my first and only time seeing such a consist. I was waiting for dozens of the trailing green Terra Transport intermodal containers behind the first two engines as it rounded the curve and couldn’t believe my eyes! Even the double caboose lash up was a rarity!
Rather strange co-incidence today, Kenneth…I purchased a copy of your Rails Across the Rock (2013) book today. I did not know you were an author. Looks like a delightful read.
Life is indeed full of amazing and wonderful co-incidences. I have since released a second book, RAILS AROUND THE ROCK – A Then & Now Celebration of the Newfoundland Branchlines (2014), also published by Creative Book Publishing. You may be interested to learn that 100% of my share of the royalties from both books are directly sent to various charities by Creative. I am currently working on a third book, this time on the St. John’s Street Railway.

Thanks Stephen! Had I known at the time that the end was so near,I would have chased and photographed a whole lot more. However, in 1987, we had all hoped that it would have lasted a few more years.
How much notice did you have it was going to shut down?
There were rumours by the end of 1987 that it was going to be shutdown the following year. The official announcement came in June of 1988 that it would cease to exist effective September 1, 1988 but that was later extended to September 30th.
