Tucked in the trees to to the south of Barrie's Southshore Community Centre, this fire hydrant would have protected the Allandale roundhouse and the adjacent master mechanics office. Whats left of the Allandale yard is now used by GO Transit. Part of the Roundhouse floor remains behind the hydrant. The master mechanics office was saved and became the front portion of the community centre in 1994. As part of the renovations, We had the fire department hook up to the hydrant to see if it could be used in the reno. As water sprayed out of all sorts of places in the basement, we concluded it was not a good idea!

  1. Great shot… great story, Eric!

  2. Very cool find

  3. This area is currently being made over for a new park. The roundhouse floor remnants and the fire hydrants are nowhere to be seen. I hope the hyddrants didn’t end up in a dumpster.
