Caption: TTC H4 5594 (relatively new at the time, built by Hawker Siddeley Canada in 1974/75) leads a mixed train of H4's and four older H-series cars northbound out of Davisville Subway Station on the Yonge subway line, bound for Finch. An old Gloucester "G" train is sitting on platform 3, possibly waiting to enter service for PM rush hours, and a TTC bus (likely a GM fishbowl) is visible laying over in the bus bays of Davisville station. The lead car 5594 upon its retirement was converted into work car RT-64, and appears to still be on the roster.
Another interesting thing is the "Identra Coil" placed on the top corner of the lead car (sort of like an extra flag would be on a locomotive). Those were used to activate the Next Train sign boxes mounted on the ceiling at station platforms that would display the correct end destination or routing of an arriving train for passengers on the platform (if the train would be short turning, it would show the last station stop for example). One may still be able to find a few of those old sign boxes in place around the system, although by now long out of use.
