Caption: TTC 4560 (an A-9 class PCC streetcar, part of a group of 1947-built cars that the TTC acquired secondhand from Cincinnati in 1950) is seen operating on a fantrip, posed on Hillside Wye for a photo op. New CLRV streetcar deliveries were on the horizon, and that meant retirement for much of the TTC's secondhand PCC fleet. Despite this, the old car had been given a thorough spit-and-polish cleaning by shop forces prior to its outing (note the lack of typical winter road grime buildup).
The Hillside Wye was a short on-street wye located on Hillside Avenue north of Lakeshore Blvd W. in Mimico, according to Transit Toronto first coming into existence in 1928 after a reconstruction of the old Toronto & Mimico radial railway line for the city's Lake Shore streetcar service. It managed to survive (although very rarely used) until removal in 2002. The Mount Pleasant route exposure (destination Eglinton loop) is a little out of place for Mimico, but the exposures for the short-lived Mount Pleasant route were still in the roller blinds and might have made for a neat photo here.
The 1970's Pontiac Grand Prix parked curbside sports some original A-series license plates (AOU 381 in this case), first dating from 1973 when Ontario switched to the fixed ownership license plate system still in use today (the plates didn't have to be replaced yearly like years prior, and were tied to the owner of the vehicle).
