Trains are large - witness the CN employee to left of 1408 as the crew grabs a cut of cars out of the interchange track at Ottawa St in Hamilton. But Steel Plants are larger - Dofasco's aging facility hosts the no1 and no2 galvanizing lines at right amongst other operations. Photographed near dusk on a late March day.
I know these are interesting and difficult times for most - if you do go out please practice appropriate physical distancing and now is not the time to take friends on a road trip. (This is likely Illegal if you are not domiciled with them!). With many people especially our older friends confined to their homes I'd like to think this site is providing a small form of entertainment for many of our fans. Also since our routines have been obliterated and many of us are finding us with more free time, we're happy to see more people scanning and organizing their collections and some even joining us on this site and sharing a few photos. Let us know if you are thinking of sharing but need help - we're here to assist where possible. Lastly, please stay safe, keep your distance and remember, we'll all get through this together with our health! The chairs are full for the slideshow boys and girls, let's have some fun.

  1. Oh my, nice :) I got similar shots at this location back in March.

  2. This is where CN sets off interchange is it not? I’ve always seen them lift from the other side of the street where CP sets off cars.

  3. In this case part of the move was to run around cars and shove with them to strathearne yard to lift aim cars.

  4. Stephen, absolutely correct, opening up Railpictures.ca each morning is a great boost to another day of isolation, and even before this virus arrived, a bigger boost for us older guys who are not nearly as mobile as we were once. To see GMD1 1408 still in regular service sends a very appropriate message, notwithstanding all that is happening today and over the past years, just keep soldiering on ! Thank you for your appropriate words and informative and interesting picture.

  5. Thanks Gents for comments.
