Tight curves and lots of squealing: Toronto Transit Commission CLRV 4131 sits at the loading area of the TTC's underground Union Station streetcar loop after having dropped off a load of passengers (including the photographer) on a southbound 510 Spadina run. The overhead pole is stretched to the extreme, and the yellow line on the platform warns passengers to stay clear of the rear and front overhang swing. The Union Station loop opened in 1990 long after all the surrounding buildings were built, and as a result was shoehorned in with this tight loop to curve around the large underground pillars below Union Station.

  1. That looks like an accident waiting to happen – makes the “mind the gap” for London’s Underground look tame.

  2. Has there been any injuries on this platform? This looks crazy

  3. I haven’t heard of any injuries down here yet, but I’d bet it happens every once in a while.
