Three VIA Rail RDC's are seen here at Walkerville (Windsor) waiting to take on passengers for the Memorial Cup, which was being held 4 miles down the tracks at the WFCU Centre. VIA shuttled passengers between here and the arena during the event using these RDC's. In the background VIA #76 can be seen reversing into the station after wyeing at Jefferson, a practice which will fade when VIA's new trainsets are in service.

  1. Very nice picture Myles. Was always wondering why this VIA RDC set travelled to Windsor in May 2027, and now you have provided the answer. Some questions, did you ride the the shuttle to the WFCU Centre, was it well patronized ? Lastly, do you know if the RDC’s were returned to Toronto as a dead head movement or were they tacked on the back of a scheduled passenger train ? Thank you for posting, John

  2. Unfortunately I didn’t ride the train so I cannot comment on the experience. I can’t remember if they made the trip on their own or if they hitched a ride, someone here may know.

  3. I recall the rdc’s were deadheaded.

Via wanted to use these on via 85 and 88 but cn refused to allow testing on account worries of tripping signals incorrectly.

Other than this they basically didn’t run despite a couple times nearly doing it.
