Thousands gathered for the opportunity to visit each of the six new subway stations on Line 1 as part of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension. Here at Downsview Park Station, a southbound train bound for Toronto Union Station and eventually Finch enters on the southbound track, amidst a group of curious onlookers. In two weeks, the significance of this station will increase as GO trains on the Barrie Line will begin to stop here, two storeys above. Commuter train passengers will have the option to transfer to the subway for trips to areas other than the immediate downtown core around Union Station and subway passengers will be able to transfer to the train for a faster trip if their destination is near Union Station. That transfer synergy combined with development potential in its low density surroundings are sure to make this a well patronized station in the future.

  1. Sounds like what Montreal has been doing for awhile ;-)

  2. Subways, Subways, Subways!

  3. Also means I don’t have to double back when I come home from my friend’s house in Barrie.
