Caption: This VIA train with a mixture of CN MLW RS-18 cabs and VIA GMD F9B B-units was taken before or after a spring visit to the RBG Rock Garden. This may be the wrong side of the tracks, but the view is interesting. First coach of the train was in CN Black and Off-white, with 3-axle trucks, lots of close-together square windows, and rounded roof ends - an old fashioned look.
Unfortunately, it would be 15 years before I returned to this area and began practicing manual focus-while-zooming skills and rapid manual film advance with moving trains.

A most interesting lashup!! I’ve seen all kinds of variations, but do not recall this one.
I have not seen this before either – like a different take on A-B-B-A. I guess this way the power would not need to turn in Windsor.
It looks like 3126 is missing an air filter.
John, that first coach you saw was sometimes referred to as a “balloon-top”, “turtle-top”, or “Canadian Flyer” coach. VIA acquired two series from CN; 5180-5229, built in 1937, and 5283-5306, built in 1942.
Thanks for that info Jakob. My other image centred on CN 3100 includes the coach number, but its not that sharp. Definitely 4 digit number beginning with 5, second probably 2. Could be 5293 but last digits may differ.
