This, the day after the infamous Mississauga wreck, a CN RS-18, complete with 'extra flags' is seen coming off the CN Dundas Sub, en route for Hamilton.
I thought it rather unusual for this old MLW 3718 to be leading, trailing units GP40W 9644 and SD40 5068 would make more likely leaders, I suppose; but I enjoyed the opportunity to record this.
For those viewers out of the Ontario area, that is the CP Hamilton Sub line from the GALT sub on the left.

  1. I see the ‘extra’ flags are also flying on the training unit! Advance preparedness for another trip. :-)

  2. I’m rather embarrassed to say I didn’t even see that. :o )

  3. “double extra”

I also notice the sectionman building is still there – that burned around what 1991?

  4. Oops! My initial comment should read trailing unit not training unit.

  5. Another great ‘historic’ shot Arnold. One minor correction, the CP track shown was still called the Goderich Sub when this photo was taken. At this time the CP Timetable showed the Hamilton Sub as running from TH&B Main Street to Canpa, all but a couple of miles were in fact the CN Oakville Sub. Regarding the older unit leading, perhaps there was an issue with the 9644 enroute and adding the first available unit ahead of it was the quickest fix. That sort of thing sometimes happened on CP.

  6. Thanks, Ronald. I appreciate ALL your corrections and comments. :o )

  7. Once again AW..Most awesome!
