Another one done by vandalism fire eh? Is that real brick or brick veneer?
Just the cheap old insul-brick. The next time I stopped at this place it was a burned out mess. The close end was totaled, and the far end was still reasonably intact. Full of old binders and paper, waybills, every kind of bills, you’d think from the amount of paper in there. All soaked and scattered. I cannot find my pics or notes from the fire. But quite sure this place did not get to see the year 1978, so it has been awhile. I’ve seen no postcards, photos or anything of this place.
This was a replacement station. First station on site was much larger….and nicer. I believe it burned down due to a lightning strike….maybe even razed as passenger service dwindled through the years at Thorold. Nonetheless….this structure replaced that building. Like most stories go in relation to Ontario stations….typical.
Thanks Todd. Trust you to have the ‘inside scoop’ !! )
Stone platform still exists down on the site still. All that really remains though
Really!!?? That is worth checking out. Many thanks!!
