Caption: This is Thursday, a day when some railroading can happen. Today did not disappoint. I initially watched 836 arrive at Redwater. On Thursday, an extra 836 crew is called to take fuel to the air base. If things work out well, the extra crew will meet the regular crew, bringing a grain extra home, at Redwater. Those events happened today, just like a clock. The eastbound 836 no sooner got the cab to clear in the siding and the grain extra is already honking for the first crossing at the north end of town. They had a good number of grain loads and enjoyed not having to slow down or stop. In the photo here, 836 is approaching a farm crossing near mile post 40 as they continue the trip to Cold Lake. The 3 ex-NAR units will have felt a pang of homesickness at Kerensky, just a few miles back. Just across the highway at Kerensky is the Lac La Biche Sub, home rails. You can tell it's the 80's by the amount of pipeline heading out to be laid. Also of interest, and very rarely seen in this area, cab 79543 was on the tail end with International Service written under the cupola window.
