This is probably the most interesting consist that I ever caught on the CP. I would not spend nearly enough time on the east side of Calgary where such occurrences would be much more likely. These locomotives would be turned and sent back east any time they made it this far west. SD-40's (and a few GP's) ruled beyond Calgary.
I guess that this area is not a container terminal. Cross-bucks in the distance are for a very rural 52 St SE crossing.

  1. Credit goes to the guy that put the right unit on point… from the railfan perspective at least.

  2. Wacky, but not surprising – that’s really what made CP of that era interesting! Red everywhere (and some maroon), but it was applied on all sorts of different units that ran together, from old SW’s and F’s to new SD40-2′s and M636′s.
