Caption: This hobby is always full of firsts, it just depends on how long it takes one to witness theirs. This past Friday certainly had a main event feel to it, as CN L540 departed Stratford for a return to Kitchener with CP 8616 in the lead. Previously, CN 533 had died the night before in Kitchener and the trailing unit was CP 8616. CN L540 would take the two GE's and a block of cars west to Stratford to lessen the congestion in a full yard at Kitchener. While it was rare enough for CN L540 to venture west of Kitchener, it was even more layered as it would take 533's power, with one unit being CP 8616. CN L540 is seen stopping traffic in all directions as it heads eastbound through Baden returning to Kitchener. So for me this was the first time I had ever photographed a CP unit leading a train on the CN Guelph Subdivision.

First CP leader on a freight in at least 35 years.
This is awesome! So rare!
That’s a cool shot at a unique and iconic intersection!
@Stephen I believe a CP unit ventured these rails in 2014 or 2015 on the TEC train.
I’d love to see photos of the tec train in mid l 2010′s.. i did not get it.
If I may:

You couldn’t have found a better spot for a rare shot like this.
Thanks for all the comments;
@Kevin Flood, @rlk2211, @awmooney and @Stephen C. Host. Steve your shot from 2004 is great, I missed that train at the time.
