Caption: There is no railroad in Tweed any more. Once upon a time the Bay of Quinte Rwy served the community. Also CP from Glen Tay in the east (near Perth) ran right thru town to Havelock. Tweed to Glen Tay was taken up around 1972, and the Tweed-Havelock connection was history by late 1987, and that was the end of the line here. Lumber was a big business in this part of the province, and it relied on the railroads back then. Sawyer-Stoll was a wide spread name in the industry. Over the years competition forced this company to retreat, and so they consolidated at the old CP station at Tweed. (Sawyer-Stoll was bought out in 1979 by G.W.Martin) In later years, images show this station much shorter, as not long after this photo was taken the freight section was removed up to the door to the office with the new window replacement is seen. The old building, constructed around 1884,and no doubt outlived its usefulness, was demolished in 2008.
