Something’s not correct, this can’t be 1979. These particular leased engines weren’t on CP property until the fall of 1983. Would it still be the West Local by that time ??
No disagreement – scan had no date or location – updated to reflect your info until more concrete dating is found.
Location was easy to find – telltale Th&B crossing marker and google maps found the farm fairly quickly.
I would have thought this may be a Steel Train move but the mixed freight up front – could the Steel train have dropped freight at Brantford?

The first Nanticoke Steel Train operated over the TH&B on July 20,1980. The power for the first year was a trio of CP SW-1200RS units. This might have been the first run of the train utilizing the Chessie power leased and assigned to the train by CP. It was common practice to have the Nanticoke perform any necessary work on the Waterford Subdivision in lieu of operating an Extra West from Aberdeen.
I’ve seen photos of a CP/TH&B train operating to Nanticoke with pups – this was documented in “Steel Wheels along the Grand” by George Roth – construction/dimensional trains in the mid to late 70′s for example.
The LE&N ran dimensional extras to Nanticoke during the construction of Stelco’s Lake Erie Works facility, but the operation of the Joint CN/TH&B Nanticoke Steel Trains was between July 1980 and March 1987 when it reverted to an all CN operation.
The third unit (4838) Is still in service today as CEFX 3804. I am only 17 and never got to see anything on the waterford sub so it is interesting to think that a locomotive that has been over the TH&B bridge into west brant ( something i wish i could’ve seen ) is still running on those same wheels today
