Caption: The summer of fun and variety, 2 years ago was truly a great time. The 4614 and 2126 are on the way to Mirror with a mixed bag of freight. Even AltaSteel (the billowing dust behind the units) was a going concern, which by no surprise, in the last few weeks is a very quiet building. If rumors prove true, the red, white and blue will be gone in the near future. I will miss all of the paint schemes that were worn by the PGE and BCR.

Nothing beats seeing a head end unit try to be an MLW…smoking up a storm lol! Great photo…nice catch. Another moment rumoured to soon be gone by way of those BC Rail units.
Thanks Todd.
I have never seen AltaSteel make dust again like they did on this morning. Maybe they were spring cleaning.
Very nice!
Cool shot, Larry.
Yeah, that is quite the shot. So many great photos I see makes me wish I was there. Edmonton might be a ways off for me, but it IS in my sights.
@awmooney: Have you been to Edmonton? If you haven’t yet, you probably won’t want to leave once you’re there The train activity there really puts this area to shame I hate to say.
Thanks a bunch Kevin, Jamie and Arnold. I’m glad all you fellows are enjoying it.
So far this year, Edmonton is not the bustle it has been previously. Traffic is down and many of the trains are now hauled by the newer GE’s. One, if not both of these, are to be found system wide I can imagine. Traffic should pickup over the next few months I hope.
@Kevin: Almost embarrassing to say, but yes, I have been to Edmonton; but it has been a LONG time..(44 yrs)….much too long….as the photos I posted from up there when I first got onto Railpics were ancient by todays standards. One of the shots, for example was of Northern Alberta Railways GMD-1 #304; and we know how long ago that road got swallowed up. )
@awmooney: I was there in July 2019 and was shocked at how busy it was! It was train heaven Unfortunately, because I was there for work, I didn’t have a whole lot of time to play with, but an adequate amount to get some decent shots; however, I had some difficulties with the sun angles. Walker Yard is really cool – the Yellowhead Highway parallels it and the yard is pretty much right up against it at spots. I also got a lot of older motive power there, like the SD40-2s.
I want to go back. My last pics there were from September 1976 !!!
Sadly, I was just at this spot last week. All the trees here that give it that countryside look have been cut well back. It is now much more obvious you are in the midst of a commercial district. Good thing poplars grow fast.
