The St. Mary’s cement plant near Bowmanville almost looks like a city of its own. I’ve always wanted to work it into a photo and luckily this new location for me works out decently. Here an eastbound VIA races along CN’s Kingston subdivision. The overgrown service track in the distance makes it look as though CN no longer services the facility but thankfully that us incorrect considering the cut of cars barely visible within the plant.

  1. I used the operate train 546 out of Oshawa to Cobourg and back and we serviced St. Mary’s Cement. If you can believe it (lol i am old) notbfar from the spot,CN had a siding to the Goodyear plant that actually ran across HWY 401 at a level crossing with no gates but it had crossing lights! A bridge over the 401 was later installed .

  2. I have a few shots of that spur not long before it was removed. I could barely see where it was on this trip other than the old bridge sides showing through the weeds and bushes. There is another image on this suite showing the intact spur.

  3. Neat picture Marcus, love the LRC car “bobbing along” on the tail end. In another year, this equipment may be gone from this corridor, making this picture of historic value. Nicely done, John
